TBILISI – [The Chronicle of Georgia monument].
The monument chronicles Georgian history. It is located on a hilltop with a wonderful views over the city near a large artificial lake "Tbilisi sea". The massive sculptural artwork is about 30m high. The top two-thirds of the columns feature important figures from Georgian history - kings, queens, martyrs, heroes, etc. The bottom level depicts stories from the life of Christ. It is worth visiting because of the wonderful landscape of the surrounding area. You can take very different photos and take pleasure with views.
MTSKHETA – [The Svetitskhoveli Cathedral], [Jvari Monastery].
Mtskheta is an ancient town of extraordinary importance to the Georgian nation, located about 20km out of Tbilisi. It was the capital of the eastern Georgian kingdom of Iberia from the 3rd century BC to the 5th century AD. Mtskheta is of primary interest to any travelers interested in Georgian history or Orthodox Christianity. Due to its historical significance and several cultural monuments, the "Historical Monuments of Mtskheta" became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.
The Svetitskhoveli Cathedral – A masterpiece of the Early Middle Ages, Svetitskhoveli is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. It is currently the second largest church building in Georgia, after the Holy Trinity Cathedral. Known as the burial site of Christ's mantle, Svetitskhoveli has long been one of the principal Georgian Orthodox churches and is among the most venerated places of worship in the region.
Jvari Monastery is a sixth century Georgian Orthodox monastery. It is listed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Jvari Monastery stands on the edge of the rocky mountaintop at the confluence of the kura and Aragvi rivers and it is in wonderful harmony with the extremely picturesque nature of this area. Right across lies the extensive panorama of Mtskheta.
